History of Java, Ancient Heritage Wrapped in Contemporary Style (English Ver.)

Liputan6.com, Bantul – A hall-shaped room with several realistic images on the walls, featuring three-dimensional props with an ancient feel. A family can be seen wearing traditional Central Javanese clothing, posing at several spots depicted on the walls.

This room is not a space in a mall or a photobooth at a restaurant, but rather an interactive educational room in a museum in Yogyakarta – History of Java.

“Usually, young people prefer the interactive content here,” said Dimas Rival, one of the Storytellers at History of Java.

The History of Java Museum building is uniquely designed. However, like most museums, it displays historical artifacts for education and literacy purposes. The exhibited items are far from boring, ranging from pottery statues of tomb guards from prehistory to artifacts from Javanese kingdoms in modern times.

What sets it apart is the visitor flow, which is deliberately presented with chronological content, making it easier to understand. The content captions do not only describe the physical objects but also tell the historical stories behind them. Storytellers are also available to assist visitors and answer their questions.

“Our goal is to make it easier for visitors to understand the rich culture of Indonesia, especially on the island of Java,” said the museum’s operational staff, Yenny Dwiwati.

History of Java focuses its museum content on the history and culture of the island of Java. Many people assume that History of Java is related to the legendary book by Raffles with the same title.

“Not related. We just wanted to take the impression of the book to bring the museum to life,” said Yenny.
